The Means has a Desktop CNC (Carvera by Makera) for subtractive manufacturing of small objects in a variety of materials from wood and plastic to aluminum and PCBs.

Tool Changing

The Carvera has an automatic tool changer. The default set of tools present should be the following, please be sure to return it to this state when you're done with your project.

  • 3.125mm x 12mm

Feeds & Speeds

Begin by consulting the baseline feeds and speeds published by Makera. These serve as a safe baseline for starting with, especially when using bits from Makera themselves. After gaining some experience, feel free to reference the community guide (Google Doc) or to branch out on your own diving deeper into the math behind calculating feeds and speeds.

information When these guides refer to plastic, they are referring to extruded acrylic and tooling epoxy. Consider the physical properties of your specific plastic before applying the same feeds and speeds.
